We have chosen to partner with The Clothing Collective in our effort of giving back.
A BIT OF BACKGROUND
The Clothing Collective collects, sorts and redistributes second-hand clothing to previously disadvantaged women, who on-sell this clothing at a profit – creating sustainable businesses for themselves.
They strive to encourage entrepreneurship, build productive relationships and create a positive impact throughout South Africa.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Every year, consumers purchase billions of Rands worth of new clothing. Where is the old clothing going? It is sitting unused in our closets.
It is time to put this unutilised resource to work…
COLLECTION CONTAINERS
The Clothing Collective has established collection containers in convenient public areas.
These containers are longing for your old clothes! They take anything* from children’s wear to adult wear as well as bedding and shoes.
*However, it is appreciated if the items donated are in a usable condition.
SORTING
Once collected, all items are sorted into various grades of clothing. This is then made ready for redistribution.
DISTRIBUTION AND RESALE
Together with their partner, The Clothing Bank, they distribute this clothing to unemployed women in Johannesburg’s townships. These women are given training, guidance and psychological upliftment in order to help them create sustainable clothing resale businesses for themselves.
These businesses not only increase the confidence and skills of women, but also enhances the respect and dignity of those wearing good quality clothes – opening up various opportunities.
